Blue Crab Protection

On the 23rd of October, 2010, brigades from the Olympus Tours Foundation joined the efforts to safeguard the biodiversity of our Mexican Caribbean and organized themselves to participate in the Blue Crab Protection Program.

Members of the Foundation and their families went out on this full moon night to two of the different points in Cancun’s hotel zone, (Las Perlas and Punta Nizuc), as designated by Cancun City Hall’s Ecology Department, to help female blue crabs cross Kukulcán Boulevard and avoid being run over.

We were able to rescue many crabs; however, the reduction in numbers of the species has been notable due to the continued construction and works that are taking place on the beaches, continually altering the region’s ecosystem.

The children who participated in the Olympus Tours Foundation brigades have learnt a lot and have become aware of the need to maintain our beaches and surroundings clean, as well as the importance of protecting and taking care of our environment.
