Lakis Charalambous

Lakis Charalambous, of Greek-Cypriot origin, was born in the coastal city of Famagusta in the Island of Cyprus, in 1960.  A beautiful city of crystalline waters, famous since old times when Achaians upon returning from the Trojan War founded the first Kingdom City of the Island. In this tourism city of Lakis, in the heart of a hard-working family, he studied elementary school and part of his high school until the Turkish army invaded the Island in 1974 turning him in a refugee together with 200,000 persons more. His humanistic education, the bitter experience of war, the consequences brought by the military occupation of his hometown, shaped his character and drove him to become involved in supporting and contributing to social causes within and outside his country, always longing for the peaceful settlement of conflicts and returning to his native land.

He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality from the International Center of Glion South Montreaux in Switzerland and a Diploma in Hotel Management. He continued his education with several courses and seminars in different countries. In 1995 he started the Certificate Course for Business Executives of IPADE, the Pan-American Institute of Business Top Management.

During several years he worked for the ITT Sheraton Chain, as a Sales Manager in Limassol-Cyprus first, later in Marketing Research based in Frankfurt, Germany, Sales and Marketing Director of Sheraton Hotel Cancun-Mexico and Regional Sales Director for Mexico.

In 1994 he created his own corporation, Olympus Tours, first in the City of Cancun and later on he opened branches in important tourism centers in Mexico such as Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Riviera Maya, Cozumel and the capital of the country, Mexico City.

Later he also created the company Olympus Real Estate in collaboration with other businessmen. He has created several service, furniture and real estate companies.

In 2006 he was appointed Honorary Consul in Quintana Roo, based in Cancun, by the Government of the Republic of Cyprus.

In parallel to his businesses, Lakis created the Charalambous Foundation in 2000 which years later became what today is the Olympus Tours Foundation.
