The Environment
The Olympus Tours Foundation has its headquarters in Cancun, Mexico’s main tourist destination, and promotes sustainable tourism development in the Mexican Caribbean region and throughout the country. It seeks to contribute towards reducing threats to the area’s biodiversity and collaborates with initiatives and organizations dedicated to environmental protection

This particular part of Mexico is surrounded by protected areas and vulnerable ecosystems which are fundamental for biological diversity and we feel that it is a matter of utmost urgency that tourist activities should be carried out in harmony with our surroundings, in an environmentally friendly, economical and socially sustainable manner.

The Foundation has joined initiatives aimed at addressing climate change, as well as global campaigns such as Earth Hour, sponsored by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF). It actively collaborates in educational programmes with its own projects that increase society’s awareness about preserving the area’s ecosystems and protecting the environment, and supporting programs organized by other agencies such as the Blue Crab protection program.

Actions taken to prevent permanent damage to the ecosystems and biodiversity of the area is the permanent reforestation of managed areas which are home to red mangrove, sapodilla and other species.
OWN PROJECTS
Green awareness within Olympus Tours: wall newspaper; waste separation and recycling; part of our everyday life in Olympus Tours.
Battery collection.
We encourage the use of ecological shopping bags in Cancun’s supermarkets.
BLUE CRAB PROTECTION
In order to promote the preservation of biodiversity in Cancun and the Riviera Maya, the Foundation responds to the calls of Cancun City Hall’s Department of Ecology and actively participates in the blue crab protection campaign. With the development of the hotel zone and changes in their habitat, blue crab females need help to cross from the ocean to the Nichupte lagoon to lay their eggs without being run over by motorists.
